Artist’s Statement

This work came from my experience encountering a city shaped by nearly 2,000 years of ceramic history. Created in Jingdezhen, China in 2025, the porcelain tile layers traditional cobalt patterning, blurred through expressive underglaze painting, with a digitally printed photograph taken while wandering the city. The historic and contemporary processes reflect my experience of a city where ancient traditions and a changing landscape continually overlap. Like a memory, some details remain sharp while others blur and fade. Through these layered materials and images, the work explores how we absorb a place through experience and carry it with us.
