Artist’s Statement

This ongoing body of work was inspired by two photographs I made during the COVID-19 pandemic, which marked a shift from expansive landscapes and skyscapes to inscrutable images that observe the sculptural quality of wild grapevines, the chaos of tangled branches and the interplay of shadows and luminous reflections in water. I hope these images evoke a contemplative moment for viewers.

Using a decades old square format camera with gelatin silver film feels authentic to my subject matter. My handheld technique requires use of my breath to keep the camera steady, while the wide angle lens softens the edges.
