Artist’s Statement

My work observes the human impulse towards transcendence embodied in the tension between visceral figurative imagery and ethereal reinterpretations of Baroque iconography. Recurring throughout my practice is an exploration of theology and its relationship to identity, power, and the blurred boundary between morality and indoctrination. Through large-scale oil paintings and sculpture, I reinterpret ecclesiastical imagery as a semi-amorphous abstraction on which people project their desires and impulses, often tracing parallels between spirituality and different relational systems of dependence. The fragmented forms and refusal of spatial logic mirrors the conceptual terrain the work occupies: the soul and the divine, as abstractions that are felt but never fully grasped, present yet unknowable, confronting the problem of unrepresentability itself through a contemporary lens.
