Artist’s Statement

One Wrong Move begins with a question: Will I get burned if I try?

There are moments when staying safe feels easier than stepping into the unknown. Do I take the risk and strike the match? Or remain protected among the others, never knowing who I might become outside?

I made the matches in ceramic because they hold that contradiction. Together, they are safe and indistinguishable. Outside, a match stands alone, exposed to the possibility of burning. Sometimes avoiding the flame keeps us safe. Sometimes risking the burn allows us to grow, change, and become something we could not have imagined.
