Artist’s Statement

Within this work, humor and pop culture references question the past, societal norms, feminine roles and the value of ornament while using unconventional materials to explore identity, resilience, and transformation. What ties these images together is wordplay – getting the point. Things are literally pointed, or ‘point’ lies within the text. Examples are Hotpoint, trigger point, blue point, Pointer Sisters, en pointe, petit point, Westpoint, brownie points, and so on. The ephemera in COUNTERPOINTLESS presents an ideal, a product, or prompts desire. Like most advertising, the good memories of the items have not necessarily aged well.
