Artist’s Statement

These works explore how everyday objects and family traditions can preserve cultural identity and memory. Vero Mango Lollipop is a hyper-realistic resin sculpture inspired by a childhood obsession with Mexican candy and the memories attached to it. Porfiria Carreño Vasquez honors my great grandmother through her tortilla recipe, which I learned from my grandfather as a way of keeping her memory and knowledge alive. Together, these works reflect my journey of reconnecting with my Hispanic heritage through food, family, and tradition. They explore how seemingly small, familiar experiences can carry stories, strengthen our connection to those who came before us, and preserve culture across generations.
